Business of being born

Today during the boys rest time I worked and watched a movie. That’s how I do lots of work around here; with a movie on in the background! Aaron hates it and says it is a horrible way to watch a movie. I say I just know how to multi-task and don’t have time to just sit and watch a movie and do nothing else. 🙂 Anyhow, today my Netflix movie, The Business of Being Born arrived and I immediately watched it. This is a movie I’ve been saving for the first week of summer when Aaron hits the road and I can watch movies that he would have no interest in!

I was very impressed and it made me want to deliver a child with a midwife. I don’t plan on birthing any more children, but IF I ever did this film completely convinced me that I could do it and would want to do it. The accomplishment of doing it on your own with no meds and in the comfort of your own home actually seems very intriguing to me.

I am kind of ashamed that I had all the drugs given to me during the delivery and lots of them I never even questioned.  I just took them without even asking about them.

If you are pregnant now or ever want to have a baby in the future check this out.

  1. I just heart you so much.

Could you PLEEEEEEEASE move to Blackwell and be my bestest friend?

    Pretty please?

I mean, it’s not like TN has so much more going for it when it comes to bands and music and all that … not compared to rural Oklahoma!!

  2. girl…you just intrigued me!!!! I am seriously considering natural with this baby. I went super-light on the epidural w/ Ems and although it was painful, I don’t remember the pain now and was thrilled to be up and moving (and taking myself to the potty) after she was born. I know that no meds would be totally different, but I am considering, so I will HAVE to check this out. Most of the time when I tell people that, they think I am crazy!!

On another note, Nicole and I missed you at the pool today. I hope you and the boys can go with me and Em sometime soon! She would love to play with Deacon:)

  3. I have this on my Netflix cue too. I can’t wait to see it! I had a midwife when I delivered my daughter and it was amazing. Don’t know if I’ll be birthing anymore either, but if I do, it’s the way to go.

If it makes you feel any better, I always try to multi-task when I watch movies too. And my hubby also mocks me.

  4. I saw this last month. It made me realize that the way the doctors and hospital handled my delivery might have caused me to have a C-section. Of course, because I had a previous C-section, I had the rest of my children this way as well. I wish I could turn back time and be more in control of my health care. I was young back then, 21, and had no clue. I hope that this film educates those moms out there.
