basketball practice.

September 30, 2008 · 8 Comments

Tonight was our first practice. We are now in organized sports. I must say I’m so very happy that we are in this stage of life. I love sports and hope that my boys do too.

Cayden was told he could either play basketball, soccer or t-ball this fall and he chose basketball. Fun stuff! I signed him up thinking he’d be on the 4-5 year old team and he is actually on the 4-7 year old team with him being the ONLY four year old on his team! I thought about pulling him out but then decided that we would stick it out and see how he did. He has been so excited about playing basketball!

He did great tonight. I was so proud of him. Of course he is four, so he got out of line a lot, he played with the other boys in the back of the line when he should have been paying attention, he pulled his shirt up over his head and laughed, and it wouldn’t be the first practice without a head to his nose and a small crying spell. I didn’t rush over and actually thought he was going to shake it off, but he did run to the side lines and stand with me for a bit. I was so proud of myself b/c I didn’t baby him, but checked it out, hugged him and then encouraged him to go back and practice with his team. After about 2 minutes he was good to go.

We have two more practices before our first game. This should be interesting!

Look at that form!!!!

I feel bad for him b/c he never made a shot. In fact he never even came close. In fact the ball never got but about 3 feet over his head and almost hit him in the head with each “shot”! They are for some reason practicing on 10 ft. goals, but will play on 8 ft goals. I think our “goal” for this year will be to at least get one ball close to going in the basket either in practice or at a game!

Yes that’s him in the back with his shorts pulled up to his butt. Doesn’t he look little compared to some of the boys. Oh I pray they are nice to him and the kids on the other teams don’t just RUN HIM OVER!

Here Coach Tony is dribbling beside him to help him out. The coach is doing great with the kids. I was worried we would get a yeller for a coach and I wouldn’t like that for my four year old. I like Coach Tony.

Funny story …. as we walked up I was pointing out Coach Tony to Cayden and he replied …. He’s brown just like Deacon.  Funny how his little mind works.  He has tattoo’s all down his arm and that doesn’t even phase my kids, but they know when someone looks brown like Deacon.  I love it!

I’m telling you as much as I LOVE this season of our lives and am so ready for it, it also scares the crap out of me. If you know me you know I worry about my kids. I worry that Cayden will do something silly that is nothing out of the ordinary for a four year old and the bigger kids on the team will make fun of him. I worry that they’ll say mean things to him in line while waiting their turn to dribble. I worry that he’ll get yelled out and get his feelings hurt. I worry that the big kids will run him over.

I need to get out of this worry phase and trust God and allow God to lead me and guide me. It is hard. I never knew parenting would be so hard. I feel so much pressure to protect my kids’ minds and hearts. I don’t want them to get too “grown up” before they need to be. I don’t want them to get hurt too soon.

I want to be their protector.

to love on Frankie ….

September 30, 2008 · 2 Comments

It was an honor to love on Frankie.  I love that our family is friends with his family!

As I kissed his face I whispered in his ear that his momma, papa & sisters love him dearly.  They think of him daily.  They pray for him.  They long for him to be with them.

What an honor.

meeting mom

September 30, 2008 · Leave a Comment

Today is a HUGE day for Bush & Maris.  Today they will meet the mom that has chosen them to parent her baby.  They are nervous and excited all in one.  If you would like, please pray for them this morning.  Maris talks about her feelings on her blog here.

I still remember the first time I met Deacon’s first mom.  It was one of the most awkward 15 minutes of my life.  She had given birth the day before and I had been caring and loving on Deacon since then.  Although it was awkward and weird then, we have a great relationship now.  We email and see each other about once a year.

I also remember when I met Story’s mom.  It was awkward for a number of reasons too.  There was the language barrier and then the normal awkwardness that comes along with that situation.  I’m confident that we will also continue our relationship with her as well.

New painting in bedroom.

September 29, 2008 · 14 Comments

I adore my husband.  He is always thinking of me and how he can make me happy.  Whenever I’m away he seems to always do something for me as a surprise before I get home.  One time when I was away he laid a patio for me in our backyard.  It was a great surprise when I arrived home!

This week while I was away in Haiti he told me he made me something.  I was so curious and was convinced that he had set up Story’s bed for me in her room.  He knows I’m dieing to do that so that’s what I thought it was.

I got home and went through the house looking for what I thought he might have done.  Then I walked into our bedroom and saw this:

Yes he painted that picture on the wall.  I didn’t believe him.  I made him swear that he did it and didn’t buy it at an art gallery somewhere in Austin.  I LOVE LOVE LOVE LOVE it!  It is so me!

I teared up when I realized that my husband painted this for me.  I am certain that I do have the best husband in the world and am so grateful that God gave him to me.  We are a great team and truly do love and care about each other tremendously.

Here is a close up:

The picture has the flash on it, but you get the idea.  COOL PAINTING!!!

  2. a pediatrician for our kids. we would even go for a good family doctor. i would also like them to be black. anyone know a good doctor on the north side that is black?
  3. a dentist. we all need one. i would love a pediatric one for my kids and then one for us. know any?
  4. a doctor that deals with international adoptions.  i would even be willing to travel to Houston or DFW to go to a good one.  we don’t need one now, but will in the future when A & S come home.

Pics from Haiti trip

September 29, 2008 · 1 Comment

Licia and Lori were so busy while we were there. I think they are amazing and work so hard to help the people of their village. They are saving lives daily. They teach me so much when I’m around them. They trust in God with all they have. They have a way of allowing God to work through them so well. I’m challenged each time I’m around them. Thanks girls for a great trip. It was way too short, but I’ll be back soon!

Thanks Lance & Amanda for the chick-fil-a toys.

Chrystal and I got to sit in First Class from PAP to MIA.  It was great.  I know why people pay the upgrade for these seats.  You have your own space and get great service and free drinks and food.  I slept for most of it!

  • Oh my goodness!  This family is adopting again and I’m so happy about it.  I can’t wait to follow their journey again!  Her posts when she was waiting on her kids in Haiti were great for me.  They were reality and so fun to read.
  • This couple just recently met their two boys in Haiti

Our friends Bush & Maris are one week away from meeting a little boy that could be their son.  I love this couple and they are more dear to me than they will ever know.  I’m praying for peace for them the next few weeks and praying the best for this baby and his mom.

Bush is a great photographer and is selling prints to help cover their last minute adoption costs.  The prints are great and I think Aaron has ordered one for us.

Go show some love and buy some Christmas gifts early!  No need to wait until the day before …. get em now!

Go HERE to see the prints.

I’m in the states.

September 26, 2008 · 4 Comments

After one of the worst nights of sleep last night and being up for 18 hours now I’m at the Ivey’s and exhausted!  EXHAUSTED.

Great travel day.  Uneventful ….. except we did run into Barb in the airport and sat and talked forever.  She is escorting a child home to Argentina!  Fun!

Tomorrow I see my boys and my husband.  It will be a good day!

Good night.
